Paywall after the first lesson is diabolical! My original thought was 5/5 recommended and way better than other apps with Japanese. BUT............, you complete the first lesson and boom, pay to continue. Honestly I felt like a basic tier for lessons should be incorporated which would probably motivate people to purchase premium tier if interested. But, that's my broke opinion.

Thanks for your honest feedback! We understand it’s frustrating to hit the paywall after the first lesson. Your idea for a basic tier with more free lessons is great—we’ll share it with the team. If you have more suggestions, feel free to email hi@lingodeer.com. Thanks for giving us a try!

It's been lovely for learning Korean. Unfortunately, the free part barely covers the first most basic unit, and with billing paused for my country, I can't possibly continue and see if it's possible to get a decent level of knowledge. I can't recommend this app for free learners. I like the option to have the romanization on or off, unlike in Bisuu, where it's always on. The gamification isn't as intense as in Duolingo. The ads for premium are tolerable.

This review is for "Deer Plus" but I wasn't able to find it so I'm writing it here since this appears to be the same developer. The app would net another star (at the very least) if the its UI didn't sit under the phone's universal nav bar located at the base/bottom of the screen. This poor design makes it impossible to select buttons located at the bottom of the screen. Btw, if there's a setting to bring the app to the front or minimize the nav bar, I can't find it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention and sharing your device info. Sorry for the UI issue with the nav bar—this isn’t the experience we want for you. Could you send us a screenshot of the problem at hi@lingodeer.com? That’ll help our tech team fix it faster. Really appreciate your help! — LingoDeer Support Team
